
A community photo story project for Asian people living with HIV.
Over the next two months, you are invited to share photographs and short quotes that reflect their everyday lives, culture, joy, strength and belonging.
You do not need to show your face. You do not need to use your real name. You do not need to talk about HIV unless you want to.

This is Us is a creative photo story project for Asian people living with HIV.
Over the next 2 months, you are invited to take photos that show parts of your everyday life, identity, culture, joy, strength and belonging.
- You do not need to show your face.
- You do not need to share your name.
- You do not need to talk directly about HIV unless you want to.
The final project may become a photo book, slideshow, or small community display. Your contribution will remain anonymous.
By sharing your photos and quotes, you are helping to create a collective story of Asian people living with HIV and the many experiences, identities and communities that make up our lives.
Please take and submit:
1–10 photos
and
1 short quote for each photo
Your quote can be 1–2 lines only.
Example:

Photo: A bowl of noodles
Quote: “This reminds me of home, comfort and feeling of self.”
You can photograph anything that represents you, your life, or something meaningful to you.
Ideas include:
- Food or cooking
- A place that feels safe
- Something from your culture
- Your favourite object
- A book, plant, artwork or clothing
- A street, park, train station or café
- Your hands doing something
- A hobby or routine
- Something that brings you joy
- Something that represents hope
- Something that shows strength
Please avoid photographing other people’s faces unless they have clearly agreed.
You can use these prompts to guide your photos. This is only example and you can use different quote.

Culture
Take a photo of something connected to your culture, language, food, tradition or identity.
Example:

Strength
Take a photo of something that helps you keep going.
Example:

Take a photo of something that reminds you of friendship, community or belonging.
Example:
“I feel connected when…”
Joy
Take a photo of something that makes you smile.
Example:
“This brings me joy because…”
Growth
Take a photo of something that represents change, learning or becoming.
Example:
“I am growing by…”
Looking Forward
Take a photo of something that represents hope, dreams or the future.
Example:
“I hope for…”

Choose one photo that best represents you.
Example:
“This is me because…”
Your safety and privacy are very important.
Please remember:
- You can stay completely anonymous.
- You do not need to show your face.
- Do not include names, addresses, medication labels, clinic letters or anything that can identify you.
- Avoid photos that show other people’s faces.
- You can choose what you want to share.
- You can withdraw your photos before the final project is completed.

The photos and quotes submitted may be used in:
- A community photo book
- A digital slideshow presentation
- KTS Asian and Positive Life NSW community events
- Community reports, newsletters or presentations
- Positive Life NSW social media, website or promotional materials including the funding organisations (where appropriate).
Only the photos and quotes you choose to submit will be considered for inclusion.
Protecting your privacy is our priority.
- Your name will not be displayed.
- You do not need to show your face or include any identifying information.
- Photos that may unintentionally identify you or another person may be edited, cropped, or excluded from the final project.
Not all submitted photos may be included in the final photo book or slideshow.
The organising team may:
- Select photos for inclusion
- Adjust brightness, contrast, or cropping to improve presentation
- Correct spelling or grammar without altering the original meaning
- Arrange photos and quotes to create a cohesive exhibition or publication
The content and message of your submission will not be changed without discussion.
By submitting your photos and quotes, you give Positive Life NSW and our funders permission to use them for the purposes of the Kitchen Table Stories, This is Us project and related community education, awareness and engagement activities.
Your photos will not be sold or used for commercial purposes.
Do I need to show my face?
No. Most participants will likely choose not to.
What if I’m not good at photography?
That’s completely fine. We are interested in your story, not professional photography skills.
Do I have to talk about HIV?
No. The project is about your life, experiences and identity. HIV can be part of your story, but it does not have to be.
Can I participate anonymously?
Yes. Names will not be published.
How many photos can I submit?
Anywhere from 1 to 10 photographs.
Can I use photos I have already taken?
Yes, as long as they are your own photographs.
Can I withdraw my submission later?
Yes. Please contact Positive Life NSW team before the final project is produced.
