A new format for peer connection and support

You may know a[STARTx] as a weekend workshop for gay and bi men living with HIV. We’re moving to a new format: a[START] RESTART, delivered across three shorter Friday evening sessions.

The change gives participants time between sessions to reflect on what they have learned, bring new questions and get to know others in the group. Each evening explores a different part of life with HIV: social, medical and practical.

Delivered by Positive Life NSW in partnership with ACON, a[START] RESTART is led by peers who are also living with HIV. It is a welcoming space to meet people who understand, share experiences, gain useful information and build confidence.

The three sessions

Friday 13 November 2026, 6–9 pm — Social
Explore stigma, disclosure, HIV and the law through conversation and practical scenarios.

Friday 20 November 2026, 6–9 pm — Medical
Learn about HIV, CD4 count and viral load, and how treatment works. We’ll also discuss sexual health, looking after yourself and questions to ask at regular health checks.

Friday 27 November 2026, 6–9 pm — Practical
Explore self-esteem, your strengths, everyday confidence and where to find support.
