Kitchen Table Stories

EDM Headers 1

Kitchen Table Stories is a peer-led community dinner series created by Positive Life NSW for people living with HIV from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including Asian, African and Latin American communities.

These gatherings bring people together over food in a relaxed, welcoming environment where conversations can unfold naturally. Around the table, participants share stories, exchange knowledge, and build trusted peer connections grounded in lived experience.

Kitchen Table Stories recognises that many people living with HIV navigate layered experiences, migration, culture, language, stigma, family expectations and healthcare systems. Rather than focusing on barriers, the program centres strengths: resilience, cultural identity, community wisdom and mutual support.

Each dinner provides space to:

  • Connect with others with shared culture who understand the experience of living with HIV
  • Build confidence in navigating healthcare and support systems
  • Share practical knowledge about treatment, disclosure and wellbeing
  • Reduce isolation through culturally affirming peer connection

The program is facilitated by trained peers and designed to ensure privacy, respect and cultural safety. No prior involvement with Positive Life NSW is required , just a willingness to come together and be part of the conversation.

Kitchen Table Stories reflects our commitment to ensuring that communities disproportionately represented in Australia’s HIV response are meaningfully included.
