Joël has been living with HIV since 2010 and with hepatitis C between 2010-2016. He grew up in regional New South Wales and spent the majority of his adult life in Melbourne before moving to Sydney in 2018.
Joël is a valued member of the Positive Life NSW Positive Speakers Bureau (PSB) team after joining early 2019. Formally a member of Living Positive Victoria’s and Hepatitis Victoria’s Positive Speakers Bureaus, and employment experience in grant management, arts management and more recently in public health policy, he is currently the Treasurer of Harm Reduction Victoria.
Joël brings considerable experience as a former member of both Living Positive Victoria’s and Hepatitis Victoria’s Positive Speakers Bureaus, speaking at high schools, universities (undergraduate and postgraduate including guest lecturing to MPH students), SOPV outreach volunteers, nurses, clinicians (inc s100), pharmaceutical companies, gay, bi and queer men’s workshops (eg young and gay, relationships, sexually adventurous men). He has had articles featured in The Good Weekend, industry journals (eg PHN magazine), VICE documentary, Straight Shootin documentary (in the style of You Can’t Ask That), MCV and Star Observer.
