From 1988 to 2015, Positive Life NSW published our flagship publication, Talkabout, as a community-driven magazine for and by people living with HIV with a subhead: ‘Where we speak for ourselves’.
Talkabout started as a bi-monthly stapled newsletter in 1988 and throughout 1990s-2000’s evolved to a magazine format. With a primary focus on our personal stories and experiences representing the various populations of all people living with HIV in NSW, it aims to express our views and represent ourselves in a way that is within our control. It also carried a range of news, events, community opinions, policy and rights information, advertisements, and other HIV-related developments across NSW. In 2015, it moved to an online environment as Talkabout Online.
Now, Positive Life NSW is considering our options to bring back Talkabout as a printed bi-monthly 28-page magazine, posted to all Positive Life Full members who have registered a postal address with us, and also available to be downloaded from the website, distributed on email and available as a PDF document. It would also be distributed to HIV-sector organisations and partners in Sydney and across NSW as it was previously. We envisage a community-based publication that engages with the daily lives of all people in NSW living with HIV.
We are especially considering our options in this time of COVID-19 restrictions and physical distancing as a way to create a sense of community, mediate the impacts of isolation, and maintain our networks and contacts across NSW.
Before we progress this further, Positive Life is seeking clarity from our members and stakeholders living with HIV about potentially bringing back Talkabout. We want to consult with our community of people living with HIV in NSW, to hear your feedback about this initiative. Please click the link below to participate in a short nine question survey which asks for your thoughts and invites your input and comments.
This survey will be open from Thursday 14 January and close Thursday 28 January 5pm.
No questions are compulsory. All answers are anonymous.
If you know of anyone who would like this survey in a different format (printed format, telephone conversation, etc) please contact Craig Andrews, Communications Manager on (02) 9206-2177, 1800 245 677 (freecall outside metropolitan) or email@example.com
