Leave a Bequest

Your Will can help create powerful, positive change for people living with HIV, our families and communities

Leaving a gift to Positive Life NSW in your Will is an incredible act of forethought, generosity and kindness.

Bequests and other gifts allow us to plan with confidence, and continue to provide advocacy, services, support, and a voice to all people living with and affected by HIV throughout NSW, by an organisation directed and controlled by people living with HIV themselves. At times there is a difference between what people living with HIV tell us they want and need from us, and what the public and private sectors will fund us to do. Bequests support us to do work for the community that funding bodies sometimes do not see as a priority.

Your bequest will honour your memory, celebrate your passion and commitment to human rights and health equity, and enable all people living with HIV to live self-determined, healthy and happy lives, well into the future.

What kind of bequest can I make?

After making provisions for those you love, here are some of the many options available if you wish to leave a bequest to Positive Life NSW:

  1. A Percentage: You can leave a percentage of your estate to Positive Life NSW. This is often regarded as the most flexible way to leave a bequest, as you don’t have to adjust the value of your gift to account for changes to your total assets or for inflation.
  2. The Residue: After your loved ones and other personal beneficiaries have been considered, you can leave the whole or a part of the residue of your estate to Positive Life NSW.
  3. Fixed Amount: You can give a specific type of gift, such as money, property, stocks or shares to Positive Life NSW; this type of bequest may need to be amended over the years to account for changes to your circumstances and inflation.

How can I leave a gift to Positive Life NSW?

Making a bequest is straightforward and we recommend consulting a solicitor or the NSW Public Trustee to ensure that your intentions are accurately reflected in your Will.

If you already have a Will, then all you need to do is add a codicil, a short amendment to your existing Will. To ensure your intentions are accurately reflected, we recommend using the below sample wording. Please note: it is important to use our full legal name – Positive Life NSW Inc.

“I give to Positive Life NSW Inc. (ABN 42 907 908 942), PO Box 831 Darlinghurst NSW 1300, ……% of my estate

OR

the rest and residue of my estate

OR

the sum of $…… (nominated gift amount) for its general purposes free of all duties and taxes payable upon or in consequence of my death, and I declare that the receipt of its Chief Executive, Treasurer or other authorised officer shall be sufficient discharge to my executors.”
